Friday 21st September saw our very first Conference to mark the 5th Year Anniversary of our annual Glasgow's Spirit of Christmas Children's Gift Appeal.
Every year we plan and work closely with around 50 charities and organisations in Glasgow and surrounding regions how we can support families who are living in hardship to help children at a disadvantage wake up to gifts on Christmas Day, who may have nothing or very little at all to help them feel included and experience the magic of Christmas that is taking place around them.
Our first conference could not have been possible without the support and kind donations from JMA Trust and The Grand Central Hotel who wanted to help ensure that our community appeal would be successful again this year.
Invited guests from our partnering charities arrived at the Queen and Clyde Suites for our 2018 Review and Planning Conference to ensure our appeal works efficiently and runs smoothly again this year for all involved.
Last year our Facebook Group rose to 25,000 members and together with our partnering charities and organisations we were able to provide Christmas gifts and treats for over 9,000 children living in Glasgow, South and North Lanarkshire, North, South and East Ayrshire, East and West Dunbartonshire, Dunbarton District, East Renfrewshire, Renfrewshire & Inverclyde, Argyll and Bute and Edinburgh.
This year we are aiming to support another 50 charities and organisations for the referred children they will support over this coming festive season. We had lots of interesting sharing of ideas and successes and ideas for this year's appeal.
Our 2018 launch date is 1st October and we are busy working behind the scenes to get everything ready on time. If you would like to give something back to a child in your community and become a Secret Santa to a boy or girl from 0 to 16 years plus who may get very little this year, please join our Facebook Community here, which is a closed group so you will need to request to join;
Here is what our GSOC is all about;
Our Children's Gift Appeal opens officially on 1st October 2018 and will be Glasgow's Spirit of Christmas Community's 5th Year Anniversary of supporting local children suffering hardship in Glasgow and surrounding Regions, here's why...
“Imagine waking up as a child on Christmas Day to no toys, gifts or a hot meal. Every child deserves gifts on Christmas Day no matter what their circumstances are”
Now imagine that your generosity has turned that sad face into a bright happy excited child on Christmas morning. Giving is the true spirit of Christmas!
Can you donate just one gift?
The sad reality is that 1 in 5 children in Scotland and 1 in 3 in Glasgow lives in poverty and that figure is set to rise over the coming years with a massive increase forecasted in child poverty by 2020.
The Spirit of Christmas supports underpriviledged children by donating Christmas gifts to those living in hardship and poverty. Glasgow's Spirit of Christmas launched during Christmas 2014 to provide gifts for children living locally all over Glasgow and surrounding regions.
We want to make sure every child is included at Christmas and has a wonderful magical experience. You and your family can become a secret Santa to a local child in need this festive season. No-one can imagine waking up as a child on Christmas Day to no presents.
With your support last year, inviting all of your FB friends we grew to 25,000 members. Together we provided gifts and cherished memories to over 9,000 referred children waking up to presents on Christmas Day. That was a pretty awesome feeling for all of us! Join us, invite your friends and help us make a difference for more children this year.
Each child and young person received a decorated gift box or Christmas gift bag made with love and kindness filled with toys and treats for a girl or boy of a certain age group. The Christmas season provides a wonderful opportunity to teach our own children about giving to others and getting them involved in an active way in the spirit of giving at a time of year when Christmas can be the hardest and loneliness time for many children and individuals.
Every single gift donation donated as in previous years will be made by referral through our partnerships with well known and respected charities, foodbanks and organisations. This ensures that gifts donated will be placed directly into the hands of children who need them most and to make Christmas the special and magical day it should be for all children. Our vision this year is to support direct gifting to charities to help underprivileged children living in poverty and hardship in and around Glasgow.
TOGETHER COMMUNITIES DO MAKE A DIFFERENCE...THANK YOU FOR MAKING CHRISTMAS MAGICAL!
