Our 2019 GSOC Campaign Results

December 23, 2019

We are so very pleased and proud to announce that Glasgow’s Spirit of Christmas 2019 children’s gift campaign is now completed. Our new campaign will launch on 1st October 2020.

The immense sense of gratitude we are feeling right now is overflowing with all the love and generosity of heart and spirit we have seen poured into our Gifts made with Love by our compassionate community this year.

To witness that kind of love in action where friends, family and colleagues are reconnecting for the good of those less fortunate is pretty special. It fills us with hope and restores our faith that our communities care not only about our own children but also our collective children that live down the road or in the next street or town because that's also what a community is about, taking care of others when they are going through difficult times.

Whether it’s a child affected by financial hardship or living in poverty, when we judge less and leave anger, blame, fear, apathy at the door and lift others up, we lift ourselves up, that is surely what a civilised caring society looks like. That’s the kind of society we should all be proud about creating together and its growing in exciting initiatives all around the world right now including right here in GSOC.

Hopefully we never find ourselves in that position but if we do, wouldn’t it be a blessing to know that the community we live in cares enough to help us in our time of need. That’s the kind of love and caring that transforms the world. And the world right now, at this time, can really do with a lot more LOVE flowing through it and a lot less judgement.

We are so very excited to share that this year our kind and compassionate community was able to bring the magic of Christmas to 13,460 children, that’s an additional 2,400 children on last year throughout Glasgow, East and West Dunbartonshire, East Dumbarton, Argyll & Bute, North and South Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire, Inverclyde, Ayrshire and East Renfrewshire.

We couldn’t have fulfilled this total increase in referrals without each and every one of you who took action in this group to make a difference to a child or young person’s life this year. EVERY ONE OF YOU MADE A DIFFERENCE! 💖

That magical spark of Christmas inclusion and hope that will be felt in a few days from now spreads out into the very communities we live in each day and makes the world a better place to live in.

Based on the wonderful generosity we have seen this year we have estimated the average total retail value of the gifts we donated to be approx. £430,720, (an average of £32 per gift).

This campaign is nothing short of a Christmas miracle considering our young charity, Cultivating Mindfulness currently doesn’t receive any funding for our GSOC initiative to help us manage and sustain it. Something we would value more help with in 2020 to ensure we can keep delivering the good we have created together as we aim to sustain our support year on year and hopefully generate more support opportunities throughout the year beyond Christmas.

Our first ever Just Giving campaign raised just over £5,000 and allowed us to respond to emergency requests for gifts last and this week and accept new referrals. Grateful thanks to all our members, local businesses and companies for your cash donations and for your fundraising events. Incredible kindness at work everyone! 💖

This was also instrumental in helping us respond to referrals from 13 additional children’s organisations and groups resulting in our community being able to support a total of 85 partners up from 72 last year. Incredible!

WHAT OUR COMMUNITY HAS ACHIEVED IN 6 YEARS - #theplacewherekindnesshappens 💖

This warm hearted community has supported an incredible 45,763 children with Gifts Made with Love through our partners at an approximate average value of £1,238,295.00

That is a significant achievement out of the sheer kindness and compassion demonstrated by this whole community every year. We are so grateful to see so many familiar names and faces each year that creates a Christmas tradition in the spirit of Christmas.
